Pregnancy tests detect
the hormone Chorionic Gonadotrophin (HCG) in the urine, which only exists
when the egg has been fertilized. This hormone begins to be secreted by
the developing fetus. The majority of pregnancy
tests recommend waiting at least one day after missing the period. But
this depends on the sensitivity of the pregnancy tests. To be safe, and
to save money, it is probably better to wait a few days. There are some pregnancy
tests on the market that can tell if HCG is present in the urine five
days before the period is due. Pregnancy tests are pretty accurate and if you get a positive results it is almost definite that you are pregnant. However, there have been many cases of women showing negative pregnancy tests for several months into their pregnancy.
